Mechanism of action

The mechanism was worked out for Argireline. In vitro it inhibits assembly of the SNARE complex and reduces catecholamine release from chromaffin cells; in ten healthy women, an emulsion containing 10% Argireline reduced wrinkle depth by up to 30% after 30 days, with no primary irritation or oral toxicity [1].

A later randomized, placebo-controlled trial in Chinese subjects applied 10% Argireline around the eyes twice daily for four weeks and found a significant improvement in peri-orbital wrinkles measured by silicone replica [2]. Those two studies are the human evidence base for the whole neurotransmitter-inhibiting peptide class.

SNAP-8 itself adds two residues to Argireline. The claim that it is more potent comes from the manufacturer's in vitro data, which is not peer-reviewed. Reviews of cosmeceutical peptides list it in the same class and note that getting through the stratum corneum is the limiting factor for all of them [3][4].

How long does reconstituted SNAP-8 last?

Lyophilized: refrigerated or frozen, dry and dark. Stock solution: refrigerate and use within a few weeks; the finished cream lasts only as long as its preservative system does. Keep both out of direct sunlight — peptides degrade with heat and UV.

What is SNAP-8 stacked with in research?
